Department Associations

The Civil Engineering Association, Nirmana, of Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology is a family consisting of all students and faculty with the HOD as the prima voce. The department, provides immense opportunities for academic excellence of students through activities organised by Nirmana.
Nirmana took a step ahead and they grouped its students into different squads named after famous experts from the Civil Engineering field. The whole of the Nirmana clan were grouped into 4 squads namely Smeatons, Whipples, Telfords and Eiffels named after eminent civil engineers John Smeaton, Squire Whipple, Thomas Telford and Alexandre Gustave Eiffel respectively. Specific logos and team heads were assigned for each house and every competition under the banner of Nirmana was house wise which sowed the seeds of good and healthy competition among the students.

3 Career Opportunities in Conventional Type Designing vs Advanced BIM Designing 4-Oct-2024 Nirmana in association with Department of Civil Engineering Conventional design in civil engineering offers opportunities in areas like drafting, structural analysis, and project management, typically relying on traditional CAD software. Advanced BIM (Building Information Modeling) design careers, on the other hand, focus on integrated workflows, 3D modeling, and coordination across various disciplines, enabling more efficient and data-driven project execution. BIM professionals are in high demand for roles in large-scale projects, sustainable design, and smart infrastructure development, often commanding higher salaries due to specialized skill sets. The session is handled by Mr Akhil Babu (Technical Head, SOLIDCAD) and Mr Rahul Ramachandran (Director, SOLIDCAD). The event is conducted for 4th year Civil Engineering Students.
4 Work Demonstration on Local and International Projects with VR Experience 4-Oct-2024 Nirmana in association with Department of Civil Engineering Demonstrating work on local and international projects using VR allows clients and stakeholders to immerse themselves in realistic 3D environments, experiencing design concepts and spatial layouts before construction begins. VR technology enables users to explore every detail of a project, whether it's a small local building or a large international development, enhancing understanding and decision-making. This approach not only impresses clients with innovative presentation methods but also improves collaboration, reduces design errors, and ensures smoother project execution across diverse geographic locations. The session is handled by Mr Akhil Babu (Technical Head, SOLIDCAD) and Mr Rahul Ramachandran (Director, SOLIDCAD). The event is conducted for 3rd year Civil Engineering Students.
5 Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) and Sustainability 24-Sep-2024 Nirmana in association with Department of Civil Engineering Technical talk to provide awareness on Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag. Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS) plays a significant role in sustainable engineering practices. As a byproduct of the steel industry, GGBS offers a valuable way to repurpose industrial waste, reducing the need for energy-intensive Portland cement in concrete production. By partially replacing cement with GGBS, engineers can significantly lower the carbon footprint of construction projects. This not only helps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also contributes to conserving natural resources, as less limestone needs to be quarried and processed.
