Starting from the third semester, core courses are structured into six modules. The sixth module focuses on recent developments and industrial applications related to the course which will be assessed as assignments/quizzes/course projects and is exempted from the End Semester Examination.
A four/five-credit core course is offered each semester from the second to the sixth, integrating theoretical concepts with practical applications to provide students with a comprehensive understanding through concurrent learning experiences. This structured approach ensures that theoretical knowledge is complemented by hands-on application, fostering deeper insights and continuous skill development throughout the course sequence.
These courses blend theory and practical components to introduce foundational engineering sciences. Each course includes two modules from two related engineering sections such as Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering and concludes with hands-on experience.
Students are granted flexibility in selecting elective courses from the available slots offered in the curriculum. This allows them to tailor their education to their interests and career goals by choosing courses that align with their academic pursuits and personal development objectives.
Uniquely, the curriculum includes a practical-only elective course that can be taken in conjunction/ post-requiste with a program elective course. This practical-oriented elective emphasizes hands-on learning experiences, providing students with valuable practical skills and application-based knowledge relevant to their chosen program of study.
In the seventh semester, the student may choose one non-credit course from a wide array which includes Industrial Safety, Financial Management, Tech-driven Entrepreneurship, and foreign languages such as German, French, or Japanese, amongst others as per their career aspirations.
The three Open Elective courses offered across semesters seven and eight, provide the students with the opportunity to explore interdisciplinary domains aligned with their professional goals, and master essential concepts in Economics and Ethics for their chosen career.
After completing fourth semester and before entering the seventh semester, during semester break, a student shall undergo two weeks mandatory internship with industry/ NGO’s/ Government organizations/ Micro/ Small/ Medium enterprises to make themselves ready for the industry.
After finishing six semesters, students can pursue internship of 4 to 6 months in either seventh or eighth semester with reputable industries or R&D organizations, contingent upon meeting specified conditions and requirements. This practical experience allows students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings and gain valuable insights into their chosen field of study.
A student has the provision of earning up to 12 credits (16 for CU) out of the total credits apportioned to the elective courses in the seventh and eighth semester after registering for the fifth semester. This can be accomplished by taking MOOC corresponding to the electives listed in semesters seven and eight. Only any two electives from semester seven and/or any two electives from semester eight may be pursued in this way.
As part of the curriculum, students are required to complete a mandatory MOOC, fostering self-directed learning and equipping them with lifelong learning skills. This initiative helps students familiarize themselves with online learning platforms, enhancing their ability to adapt to evolving knowledge landscapes.
