Salient features of the curriculum

  1. Project based core courses

  2. From third semester onwards, there shall be six modules for all the core courses. The sixth module shall consist of recent developments and industrial applications related to the course. The sixth module is exempted from ESE. Out of 15 marks allotted for ‘Assignment/Quiz/Course Project’, 5 marks should be based on sixth module and is to be mapped to existing Course Outcomes (COs). Marks can be awarded based on the assignments/ course related projects/ report submission based on expert talks etc. Three to four hours may be allotted for the sixth module.

  3. Practical integrated core courses

  4. A five-credit core course is included from semester two to semester six. This course includes both theory and practical. The purpose of this course is to make the student understand about the theory and practical simultaneously. Maximum number of course outcomes should be limited to six and timetable setting should be done as a single course.

  5. Workshop integrated Basic Engineering courses

  6. This course comprises both theory and practical and is meant to help the student understand the basics of engineering sciences such as Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering. Out of 5 modules, 2 modules are from each section and the last module comprises hands on experience from both the sections. Maximum number of course outcomes should be limited to six.

  7. Choice based elective courses

  8. Students have the option to choose elective courses of their choice in all the six elective courses included in the curriculum.

  9. Practical elective course

  10. As a unique feature, an elective course with only practical component is introduced in the curriculum. This practical course can be a post requisite course of one of the programme elective courses.

  11. Rajagiri elective

  12. In the seventh semester as per the need of the day, the student shall take one non-credit elective course in German, French, Japanese, Entrepreneurial skill development or Design thinking.

  13. Open elective

  14. In the seventh semester, to enhance interdisciplinary learning, an open elective is introduced in the curriculum.

  15. Credited mandatory internship

  16. After completing fourth semester and before entering the seventh semester, during semester break, a student shall undergo two weeks mandatory internship with industry/ NGO’s/ Government organizations/ Micro/ Small/ Medium enterprises to make themselves ready for the industry. Coordination and monitoring of activities related to internship has to be done by Internship Committee.

  17. Six months internship for deserving students

    1. A student whose CGPA for the first six semesters is greater than 7.5 and having no standing arrears can undergo 4 to 6 months’ internship if it is offered by a reputed industry or research and development organization. In the case of private sector industries, there should be a minimum stipend of Rs 10,000/-. The college will consider requests from students on a case-to-case basis in instances of private sector industries that offer internship amounts less than Rs 10,000/- per month, after examining the quality of the internship proposal.

    2. In such cases, student has to do self-study for at least one among the three elective courses offered in the eighth semester. The student also has to complete all the requirements for the internals and must attend ESE of the elective courses.

    3. A cell has to be constituted for coordinating and monitoring all the activities related to Internship at the college level.

    4. Students have to submit the proposal latest by the end of seventh semester to the cell constituted through their respective departments. Two among the three MOOC courses offered in the eighth semester must be completed before submitting the proposal. Students are required to submit the offer letter or joining confirmation email received from the industry/organization providing the internship, along with a declaration that she/he will abide by all the rules of the college regarding the internship. Additionally, the student should also submit a synopsis of the proposed work to be undertaken during the internship program. The Cell constituted has to monitor the activities.

    5. The industry/institute/organization offering the internship should possess the necessary facilities and expertise required for conducting a B. Tech level internship. This should be verified by the Cell. The internship application offer letter from the industry, academic records of the student, field of internship, and the synopsis of the internship should also be reviewed and approved by the Cell. All such documents are to be properly filed and made available for any inspection.

    6. The Internship Report can be treated at a par with the Project Report as per the S8 Curriculum, in case such students do not undertake separate Project Work. If the student chooses, she/he can also pursue the main project which they had started in S7 and submit its report.

    7. If the internship report is confidential he/ she has to continue the main project which they had started in S7 and submit its report. This has to be made clear in the internship proposal.

    8. Final assessment will be done as per the regulation.

    9. A minimum of 85% attendance is to be maintained by the student at the industry where she/he is interning.

    10. The joining reports/attendance statements/monthly progress reports that are signed by the Supervisor at the firm are to be submitted to the Cell for review and to be communicated to respective departments.

    11. An external and internal supervisor should be appointed to monitor the progress of internship. The internal supervisor must belong to the parent institution, while the external supervisor should be from the industry/organization where the student is working on the project.

    12. Internship certificate issued by the firm where the student interned has to be verified by the Cell.

    13. The decisions of the Cell will be final.

  18. Fast track credit accomplishment

  19. Out of the 4 MOOC courses listed in the eight semesters, a student can take three MOOC courses at any time after registering for fifth semester so that the formalities for obtaining 9 credits can be completed early. 

  20. MOOC courses

    1. Mandatory MOOC Course – Minimum duration is 8 weeks

    2. Other MOOC Course – Minimum duration is 12 weeks

    3. Enrolling in the same MOOC course and making multiple claims is not allowed.

    4. While registering for the NPTEL MOOC examination, the option of sharing the results with the college should be enabled in the NPTEL portal by the student.

    5. MOOC coordinator along with Associate class teachers will coordinate the MOOC related activities like selection of MOOC courses, approval and verification of MOOC courses, verification of certificates etc.
