Dr. Silvy Mathew secured her masters in
Social Work with specialization in Medical & Psychiatric Social Work from
the Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery.
Subsequently, she
completed the prestigious 2 year M.Phil program in Psychiatric Social Work from
the National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS Deemed
University), Bangalore. She has been trained in Adult Psychiatry, Child &
Adolescent Psychiatry, Family Psychiatry, Community Psychiatry, Neuro-
Psychiatric Rehabilitation, De-addiction and various Psychotherapies.
She qualified for
UGC-NET & Junior Research Fellowship in 2000 and was awarded PhD in
Psychiatric Social Work by the Mahatma Gandhi University for her study on “The
High Risk Behaviours of the Medical, Engineering and Non-Professional
Undergraduate Students in Bangalore” in the year 2005. After her PhD
she got involved in training post-graduate students of social work in the Rajagiri
College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery on a part time basis. She joined
Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology in 2008 and has been
functioning in the capacity of the Student Welfare Officer ever since.
She has 25 years of
experience as a counselor which comprises of her roles as a de-addiction
counselor at the center for Treatment & Rehabilitation of the Alcoholics
& Drug Addicts (TRADA), Kalamassery; a Family Counselor in the Family
Counseling Centre at Edakkunnu, Karukutty and that of being the coordinator of
the Child Guidance Clinic associated with Peejays Neurocenter, Ernakulam. She
has conducted several in-house as well as external training sessions for
teachers and parents on issues related to children and adolescents like
parenting, adolescent emotional and behavioural problems, academic issues etc.
